LeeRoy Charles Hymes, 84, of Farmington, Iowa passed away at 2:05 a.m. Monday, June
6, 2016 at the West Point Care Center in West Point, Iowa.
Born April 20, 1932 in Fort Madison, Iowa the son of Charles Sylvester and Hillis Marie
(Martin) Hymes. On June 14, 1953 he married Patricia J. Smith at the Sharon Presbyterian
Church in rural Farmington, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2012.
Survivors include one daughter; Rose (Thomas) Woodruff of Fort Madison, Iowa, one son
Lawrence “Larry” Hymes of Burlington, Iowa, nine grandchildren, sixteen great
grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, five sisters; Marcie Duval of Florida,
Gwendolyn News of Florida, Dianna Meeks of Fort Madison, Iowa, Joanne Nelson of Fort
Madison, Iowa and Charlotte Sanders of Texas, two brothers; Warren Hymes of Salem, Iowa
and Howard Hymes of Denmark, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Patricia, stepmother; Cecelia Hymes, two
brothers; Charles and James, two sisters; Sylvia and Juanita, three nieces and one
nephew.
LeeRoy was a graduate of Farmington High School. He served in the Army National Guard.
He retired from J.I. Case as a welder. LeeRoy was a founding member of the Amazing
Grace Bible Church in Kahoka, Missouri. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and
anything outdoors.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Schmitz Funeral Home
in Farmington, Iowa where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that
evening.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Amazing Grace
Bible Church in Kahoka, Missouri with Pastor Dean Tomlinson officiating.
A memorial has been established in his memory to the Amazing Grace Bible Church.
