Written by Theresa Rose on January 12, 2015

Four officers were elected during the Lee County Extension Council organizational meeting Jan. 7. The nine-member council annually elects officers to comply with Iowa law.

Chris Lindner, Keokuk, is the newly-elected chairperson. Lindner will preside at all meetings of the extension council, have authority to call special meetings and perform duties performed and exercised by a chairperson of a board of directors of a corporation. Mary Weisinger, Fort Madison, was elected vice chairperson.

Judy Walrath, Keokuk, was elected secretary; and has the responsibility of keeping the minutes of all extension council meetings and signing required papers for the council.

The council elected Rick Tebbs, Fort Madison, to the treasurer position. The treasurer receives, deposits, has charge of all of the funds of the extension council, and pays and disburses funds. The treasurer insures an accurate record of receipts and disbursements and submits reports to the extension council.

Five newly elected members of the Lee County Extension Council were presented with Certificates of Election during the meeting. They were elected in the Nov. 4, 2014 general election and began their four-year terms in January. Elected members starting terms in 2015 include Kala Anderson of Fort Madison, Vicki Kokjohn of West Point, Tom Mohrfeld of West Point, Steve Newberry of Argyle, and Rick Tebbs of Fort Madison.

The council is the county governing body of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The council hires county staff, manages the county extension budget, and helps determine programming.

In partnership with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the council provides educational opportunities that bring university resources to the needs of the county and region. Local extension programs include 4-H, Master Gardeners and the Family Nutrition Program.

The county extension office is located at 414 N Main Street in Donnellson. To learn more about ISU Extension and Outreach in Lee County, visit www.extension.iastate.edu/lee.
