John Albert Skow

John Albert Skow, 76, of Argyle, Iowa passed away at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the West Point Care Center in West Point, Iowa.


Born July 28, 1939 in Charleston, Iowa the son of Richard and Hazel (Mason) Skow. On October 10, 2000 he married Judy Derr in Argyle, Iowa.


Survivors include his wife; Judy of Argyle, Iowa, two step-daughters; Judy (Chad) Thompson-Sweet of Argyle, Iowa and Katina (Si) Wellington of Moravia, Iowa, one step-son; Jerry Thompson of Panama City, Florida, two sons; Edward Skow of California and Danny Skow of California, one daughter; Stacy Skow of California, two brothers; Paul Skow of Argyle, Iowa and Richard (Vicky) Skow of Chicago, Illinois, three sisters; Helen (Gerold) Kemper of Montrose, Iowa, Norma Curtis of Kahoka, Missouri and Geraldine Coats of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, one sister-in-law; Louise Skow of Argyle, Iowa, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren including his special great grandson; Brandon Rudd who helped him with his woodworking. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Gerald “Red” and Herman  “Butch” and one daughter; Saundra.


John was a graduate of Argyle High School. He served in the United States Army. He worked as a GTE telephone repairman. John umpired softball, baseball and soccer, he built doll houses and replicas including a replica of the Argyle Presbyterian Church and J&L Hideout Saloon. He enjoyed woodworking, farming, bow hunting and dancing.


According to his wishes, his body has been entrusted to the Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation. There will be no services.
