Mt. Pleasant High School’s Jazz 1 has been chosen to participate in the Iowa Jazz Championships to be held on March 31 in Des Moines. The invitation was extended to the band based on a fourth place finish at the district jazz festival this past weekend in Iowa City plus high placements in several other competitions recently. The Iowa Jazz Championships showcases 60 of the state’s finest high school jazz ensembles, featuring 15 groups from each of the four Iowa High School Music Association classifications. Mt. Pleasant will be competing in class 3A.

At the district jazz festival held Saturday in Iowa City, besides Jazz 1’s fourth place in 3A, Jazz 2 placed first among Second Bands and the Middle School Jazz Band placed second out of 10 middle school ensembles.

The Mt. Pleasant High School show choir InMotion and Middle School show choir Chain Reaction competed in Ft. Madison High School’s “Stars in the Spotlight” Invitational on Saturday. Chain Reaction placed first in the middle school division while InMotion placed third in the evening finals.
