J. Genevieve Conner, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, January 2, 2015 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service for Genevieve will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 7 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. Chaplain Jim Luder of HCI Care Services will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, January 6 at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday evening. “Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Mt. Pleasant Park and Rec. Dept for a bench to be placed at Crane’s Pond in Genevieve’s Memory.”

Ms. Conner, the former Jessie Genevieve Thomas, was born March 23, 1927. She was the daughter of Leroy Everett and Letha Mae (nee Vandermark) Thomas, She attended school in Trenton, IA.
After raising her children, Genevieve worked for 25 years at Ruby Cleaners, which later became Iris City Cleaners. She retired in the mid 1990’s.
Genevieve had been a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 8 years and worked at the church’s food tent at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion. In later years, she attended Pleasant View Mennonite Church, located close to her home. Genevieve loved canning, gardening, flowers and quilting. At one time, Genevieve was an avid bowler and served as the secretary for a ladies bowling league. For 25 years, she also worked in housekeeping and maintenance for Midwest Old Threshers during their reunion.
Those thankful for sharing in Genevieve’s life include her 5 children: Mrs. Betty Long of Davenport, Michael Conner and his wife Julie of Las Vegas, NV, Patricia Blunda and her husband Mark of New Jersey, David Conner and his wife Marian of Warwick, NY and Marcia Parcell of Delray Beach; FL; her former daughter-in-law, Sherry Rila and her husband Chuck of Mt. Pleasant; 3 brothers – David Thomas and his wife Marjorie of New London, Marvin Thomas and his wife Margaret of Letts, IA and Larry Thomas and his wife Rosa of Wichita, KS; 3 sisters – Verla Canfield and her husband William of Yuma, AZ, Mrs. Evelyn Welker of Muscatine, IA and Mrs. Mary Alice McClaskey of Quincy, IL; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren with 1 great grandchild in expectancy and 1 great great grandson.
Her parents, 3 brothers – Donald, Jack and Charles Thomas and an infant granddaughter precede Genevieve in death.
