The 2016 Lee County Fair opens Wednesday with the 4H and FFA Horse Show at 9 am. The Blue Ribbon Diner opens at 5 pm and the Carnival opens at 6 pm. The Queen and Jr. Queen crowning is at 6 pm in front of the Grand Stand. This year there are three candidates for queen…Sarah Tweedy, the daughter of Matt and Sarah Tweedy. She attends Central Lee High School, Emma Newberry, who also attends Central Lee and who is the daughter of Jason and Wendy Newberry and Annie Thornton and Olivia Hoenig daughter of Terry and Jenni Hoenig, a student at Ft. Madison High School. The Jr. Queen candidates are Emma Smith, Xandra Abel, Summer Smith, Avree Tweedy, Maddee Wellman, Jolene Snider, Sydney Jones, Jenna Wenke and Chloe Hoenig. KILJ will announce the royalty courtesy of West Point Care Center. Also during opening ceremonies KILJ will present two Brownfield Ag Youth Awards courtesy of Farm Bureau. At 7 pm there will be a special 175th Anniversary Celebration plus the 4H and FFA Livestock Parade, 10 mile bike race, and horse and mule races.
