The Iowa State Department of Corrections has released some details regarding an assault May 5 at the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility. According to the press release 24 year old offender Beau Gries walked into the officers work area and stuck the correctional officer on duty. The officer received several punches to the face causing bruising and swelling. He was treated by on-site medical personal and transported to HCHC where he was treated and released. The Department of Corrections considers this incident a very serious assault although the injuries are not life threatening. Following an investigation the incident will be referred to the Henry County Attorney’s office for prosecution. Due to the pending investigation the correctional officer’s name is not being released. Gries is from Plymouth County and is serving a special supervision sentence for a sexual offense and is also serving time for prohibited acts.
