Home Burglaries

Written by Theresa Rose on April 27, 2015

Des Moines County Sheriff Mike Johnstone warns rural residents to be on the lookout for persons knocking on doors and pretending to be lost. If no one is home, these persons then break into and burglarize the home. The burglars are especially fond of taking entire jewelry boxes and their contents. The sheriff’s office has received several reports of daytime burglaries along major highways.

If a person knocks on your door and pretends to be lost, or you see strangers at your neighbor’s door, the sheriff asks that you get a license plate and call 911 immediately. Do not let the persons inside your home for any reason and do not attempt to detain them.

Please do not hesitate to report any suspicious activity to the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, 319-753-8366.
