Henry John Gerveler

Henry John Gerveler, 97, of Franklin, Iowa, passed away at 10:22 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born January 22, 1918, near Fort Madison, Iowa the son of Henry and Pauline (Wenke) Gerveler. On December 13, 1947, he married Ethel Mae Wagner in West Point, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2008.

Survivors include four sons, Darrell (Ruth) Hoskins of Donnellson, Iowa, Henry (Diane) Gerveler of Argyle, Iowa, Earl Gerveler of Franklin, Iowa, and Everett Gerveler of Franklin, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel; one daughter, Shirley Marsh; two grandsons, Anson and Adam Gerveler; one granddaughter, Brenda Budoff; three sisters, Josephine, Vada, and Loretta; and one brother, Julies.

Henry was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. Henry was a farmer, raising hogs and cattle. He loved the land and enjoyed going for rides and vacationing. He also enjoyed listening to music and farm shows on the radio.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015 at Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Franklin, Iowa with Reverend Bill Willis officiating.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
