HENRY COUNTY SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT PROMOTES SOIL AND WATER STEWARDSHIP WEEKWritten by Theresa Rose on May 3, 2017
The Henry SWCD to remind you that each of us has a connection to natural resources. The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) is celebrating the 62nd year of Stewardship week April 30 – May 7, 2017. The 2017 Stewardship Week is themed “Healthy Soils Are Full of Life!” Soil is the starting foundation of all of the food we eat.
The Henry Soil & Water Conservation District was formed to assist people in Henry County with soil and water conservation. During Stewardship Week, soil & water stewardship materials were offered to area schools. Waco Elementary teachers Audra Barnhart and Kathy Shelman took the opportunity to teach their classes using the stewardship materials provided for their children by the SWCD. This year’s stewardship theme was “Healthy Soils Are Full of Life”. The class then completed conservation posters using the theme which were judged by the Henry County Conservation District Commissioners, Allan Barnes, Rick Mallams, Harlan Miller, Jeff Olson and Alan Miller.
Receiving first place in the poster contest was Taelyn Egli, second place was awarded to Bradin Kaufman, with honorable mention going to Noah Provino, and Eldon Hansen.
