Henry County Historic Preservation Commission Releases New Book

Written by Theresa Rose on January 6, 2016

The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission has just released its third book, History of Transportation – Henry County, Iowa which contains 273 pages including the index. It is divided into four sections: Water, Roads, Railroads, and Aviation with many photographs, quite a number in color, and includes all towns in the county and the land between them. Each section starts with the beginning of travel in each category and continues to present times. The names of many people and locations will be recognized by some and will be fresh information to those newer residents.

Many have had a part in bringing this book to fruition and we are pleased to offer this record of another part of our county’s history. It was several years in the making and is dedicated to three long-time members: the late Herbert Hult, Wayne Moore, and Donald Young who all contributed information.

The History of Transportation – Henry County, Iowa may be purchased for $29 at the following locations: Mt. Pleasant at Hy-Vee grocery store and Hy-Vee drug store, Jerry’s Restaurant, Henry County Heritage Museum, and Brown Bear’s Basket Antiques. In Swedesburg at the Swedish/American Museum; in Winfield at the Winfield Museum, Peoples State Bank, and Pilot Grove Bank. The Wayland State Bank, city hall, and Midwest Memories Museum in Wayland. In Salem at the Lewelling Museum and the Underground Restaurant and in New London at the Dover Museum, Danville State Bank, and the city office.
