Henry County Democrats to Hold Odd-Year CaucusWritten by Theresa Rose on March 11, 2019
The Henry County Democrats will hold their odd-year caucus on Saturday, March 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., in the Mount Pleasant Middle School cafeteria.
While national attention is on the 2020 caucuses, this year’s meeting includes several important items leading into a very busy campaign season. Attendees will elect officers at the county and precinct levels. They will also review and adopt a revised strategic plan that will guide the party’s priorities for 2019.
The Iowa Democratic Party introduced a plan for virtual caucuses that will allow those that cannot attend the public meetings (which are held on one evening) to participate in the process for selecting a presidential candidate. Final approval and details are pending, but the basic plan will be presented at this meeting.
Participants will also discuss key issues in the county, state, and nation, and they will have the opportunity to write platform resolutions for the state party.
The campaign for 2020 is well underway, and at least two presidential candidate surrogates will be present to talk about their candidate’s views.
The caucus is open to all Democrats in Henry County. Doors will open at 8:30.
