Healthiest State Walk set for October 5th

Written by Theresa Rose on October 3, 2016

Come together with your neighbors, fellow community members, and hundreds of thousands of other Iowans to support the Healthiest State Initiative on October 5! This year’s Walk aims to “Step It Up” and get people together to walk for 30 minutes. Just thirty minutes of physical activity each day improves physical, social, and emotional health.

Healthy Henry County Communities is excited to partake in the Healthiest State Walk as it represents a commitment to our residents’ well being.  We hope you’ll “Step It Up” with us by walking between Central Park and Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant.  The walk will be thirty minutes long and participants are encouraged to join and walk at their own pace as we all take steps to improve our health.  The walks will start from the SE corner of the square by the steam engine or at the IW Chapel.  Mayor Brimhall and President Titus will lead the walks from both ends at 11:30 but you can walk anytime between 11:30 and 12:30. To-go lunch options will be available for purchase to help with those walking over their lunch hour. In case of rain, the REC Center track will be available to use.

Even if you are not able to join our organized walk, we encourage you to go for a 30 minute stroll sometime during the day to support the goal to make Iowa a healthier state.

The Healthiest State Initiative’s goal is to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation. The Walk on October 5th brings communities together by having an organized Healthiest State Walk, presented by Delta Dental of Iowa, in all of Iowa’s 99 counties.  Visit to learn more.
