Hazel Shipley

Hazel L. Shipley, 92, of Keosauqua died at 5:46 P.M. Sunday May 15, 2016 at Keosauqua Health Care Center, Keosauqua.  She was born September 8, 1923 in Henry Township to Floyd A. and Kathryn D. Bartholomew Arnold and married Samuel E. Shipley March 4, 1950 in Bloomfield.  He died March 20, 2008.

Hazel grew up in rural Van Buren County and attended county schools.  She spent her adult life in Keosauqua and had worked at Iowa Army Ordinance Plant, Burlington, Van Buren County Hospital, Barker Wire Company, cleaned houses and Barker Ltd. all in Keosauqua. Hazel was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed gardening, fishing, fish fries, harness racing, playing 10 point pitch and Rummy with her grandchildren and was always welcoming to anyone who stopped by.  Her favorite thing in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are four sons, Richard “Butch” Shipley (Julie)  of Keosauqua, Larry Shipley (Betty) of Keosauqua, Terry Shipley (Lydia) of Camp Creek, TX and Clark Shipley (Sue Schlegel) of Cazenovia, NY, a daughter, Grace Butterfield (Ray) of Palm Harbor, FL, two brothers, John Arnold (Vicki) of Keosauqua and Mike Arnold (Jill) of Crete, IL, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bud, Bill and Earl Arnold and a grandson Samuel Allums.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday May 19, 2016 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Pastor Mary Kathryn Hart officiating.  Visitation will open at 3 P.M.  Wednesday with family present 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery, southeast of Keosauqua.  Memorials to Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center or Helping Hands may be left at the funeral home of mailed to the family at 701 Dodge Street, Keosauqua, IA 52565
