Theatre camp concludes with a performance on the Sondheim Stage Sat., July 2
Fairfield, Iowa – The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center announces the 2016 Summer Camp at the Sondheim 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. from June 27 to July 1. This week long theatre camp wraps up with a performance on the Sondheim stage. Every camper will have a role in the production of the musical On the Other Side of the Fence by Andrea Green in front of a live audience! The performance will take place on Saturday, July 2 at 2:00 p.m. and is a free performance open to the public.
All students entering 4th – 8th grade are invited to participate in this one week camp held at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center and Sondheim Theater. Camp registration is $100 per student, which includes daily lunch, snacks, and a special camp T-shirt.
In an effort to keep the cost for campers as low as possible, the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center has partnered with Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Hy-Vee, and Everybody’s Whole Foods. “With the generous support from Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Hy-Vee, and Everybody’s we are able to provide this opportunity to students at an affordable price,” says Camp Director Kadie Dennison. “We are grateful we have strong support from local businesses that understand the value of the arts and arts education in our community.”
Summer Camp at the Sondheim, directed by Kadie Dennison and Torie Hollingsworth, aims to build a life-long appreciation for live theater in the minds of the campers and to develop skills that can be used in their daily lives. Campers will gain confidence, become better public speakers, work on their critical thinking skills, and make new friends all while being creative and expressing themselves.
The week long camp focuses on producing the musical On the Other Side of the Fence by Andrea Greene on Saturday, July 2. The musical is about two farms divided by a big, strong fence that was put up because of a long standing feud between Farm Franklin and Farmer Fred. The animals from opposing farms are friends and they band together to figure out a way to get the fence taken down. This rollicking, high-spirited barnyard musical centers on themes like: accepting differences, conflict resolution, and overcoming bullying.
The registration deadline for Summer Camp at the Sondheim is Monday, June 13. That evening all campers must attend information night from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. Parents can ask questions and campers will get to play some theatre games to get ready for camp. “I can’t wait to meet all of our campers and get them excited about camp,” said Musical Director Torie Hollingsworth. “We’ll be putting a full length musical together in one week. It’s going to be so much fun!”
