From the Supervisors MeetingWritten by Theresa Rose on September 22, 2016
Henry County Coordinator of Disability Services Sarah Berndt gave her monthly update for the Henry County Board of Supervisors Tuesday. Chris Betsworth with Hillcrest Family Services joined her with information regarding the mental health crisis services provided in the HCHC emergency room. Hillcrest provides assessments in the ER that help determine what type of help an individual in a mental health crisis needs. And what resources are available for the individual.
Dave Helman came to the meeting to let the board know that he had petitioned the auditor to have a satellite voting site at IWU for the general election in November. He provided the necessary number of signatures and the auditor will contact the university about setting this up. Helman also shared his concerns about lack of civic engagement on the part of young people. He said that he believes the act of voting can lead to future interest and engagement in the political process.
Henry County Sheriff Rich McNamee received permission from the supervisors to accept two different grants. One is a $11,025 tobacco grant from the state. It will be used for compliance checks. The other one is from the Governor’s traffic Safety Bureau for prevention of impaired driving. A total of $15, 200 will be used for a car camera, training, over-time for enforcement among other related things.
