The Mt. Pleasant City Council met in regular session Wednesday. The third reading of three different ordinances passed….a ten cent increase in the solid waste recycling and administrative fee, two hour parking limit in front of the commercial building at 204 S. Jefferson and rezoning four properties along South Briarwood Lane. The second reading for a proposed rezone of property near the intersection of East Linden Drive and S. Iris also passed.
The council approved Mayor Steve Brimhall’s recommendation to reappoint John Hendrickson and Ed Kropa to the library board. Samantha Davis was appointed as a new member to that board. And Mike Gardner was reappointed to the airport advisory committee.
Three demolition jobs at McMillan Park were awarded to the low bidder, Dave Calhoun and Big Creek Contracting.
The council approved hiring Weiler Builders for two different projects…one is for construction of a 60 by 64 storage shed. The shed and the cost of $70,000 will be shared by the City and the Utilities. Weiler Builders will also install metal sheeting and roofing on three of the storage building located at the old IDOT shop site. Cost is estimated at $17,500. Road use tax funds will be used.
Cooper Gutters of Letts will power wash, paint and install new gutters on two hangers at the airport for $19,650.
Iowa Wesleyan University was given permission to close North Main Street between Pearl and Broad for Rock Around the Block. The University is hosting the August event in conjunction with the return to campus celebration. Instead of a Friday night this August Rock Around the Block will be held Thursday, August 25. The council also approved a request from IWU for an outdoor permit for amplified sound system for August 17 from 7 to 9 pm at the President’s House at the corner of Washington and Walnut streets.
