The Henry County Board of Supervisors met Thursday. The County Engineer, Jake Hotchkiss, was present to open bids on two different road projects. Five bids were received for grading and surfacing work on 260th Street. The engineer’s cost estimate was $151,305. Three of the bids came in lower than the estimate. The apparent low bidder was Cole Construction of Keosauqua at $118,519. The engineer will evaluate the bids before making a recommendation to the board. Hotchkiss said the bids were good and he was glad to see several bids submitted. The second project is construction of a box culvert on 260th. Hotchkiss’ estimated cost was $272,606. Two bids were submitted and both were less than the estimate. Iowa Bridge and Culvert of Washington, Iowa was the apparent low bidder at $272,474. Again, Hotchkiss will review both bids and return to the board with a recommendation.
