From the Henry County Sheriff

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of two more scams. The Publisher’s Clearing House scam and the Mystery Shopper scam.
If someone claiming to be with Publishers Clearing House calls and tells you that you have won a prize award and then asked you to send a payment or money card in order to claim the prize…STOP! You have not heard from the real PCH.. At Publishers Clearing House the winning is always free and you never have to pay to claim a prize award.

The Money Shoppers scam involves a letter, email or ad describing a job evaluating retail stores that can be done from home. A packet arrives that includes a phony cashiers check. The victim is told to deposit the check into their bank account, take out an amount for salary and an amount to buy products. Then wire the rest of the money to a given address but after the money is wired the fake check bounces leaving the victim responsible for refunding the bank the amount of the check.
