From the City Council MeetingWritten by Theresa Rose on July 28, 2016
Mt. Pleasant City Council met Wednesday night in regular session. The meeting began with a presentation by Matrix Design Group, the company hired by the State to assess re-use possibilities for the former MHI building. The building on the correctional facility campus is now empty after the Governor closed the Mental Health Institute.
The second reading of a proposed ordinance change passed. This change is to correct a clerical mistake regarding the building setback in the agricultural residential reserve zoning district.
The council authorized the mayor to sign a contract with the Iowa Economic Develop Authority for a $600,000 Community Development Block grant which will be used to help reconstruct and upgrade the Jay Street Sanitary Sewer from Hamlin Street to Green Street.
The council also passed a resolution to approve amending the wastewater pre-treatment requirements the city has with West Liberty Foods. Some of the DNR testing requirements have changed involving new levels that have to be tested for and met.
