Friday House FireWritten by Theresa Rose on June 2, 2017
Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and Henry County ambulance responded to reports of a house fire at 408 E. Cedar Lane just before 1 pm Friday afternoon. Initial emergency calls from neighbors indicated there might have been some sort of explosion. Crews arrived on the scene to find flames and smoke coming from the house. The one person that was home at the time did get out of the house and did not appear to suffer any serious injuries. He was examined at the scene by the ambulance crew and was not transported. When asked if he knew what caused the fire he said he didn’t. Mt. Pleasant Utilities and Alliant Energy were also standing by but at the time were not aware of what might have caused the fire. Mt. Pleasant Fire Chief Stuart Kinney said a wall heater in the home was seriously damaged and may be to blame. The property is owned by Sheila Kerr-Hunter of Mt. Pleasant. Two Mt. Pleasant fire trucks were on the scene and New London Fire arrived to provide back up.
