Expanded Offering of Cost Share Assistance for Cover Crops

The State of Iowa will soon announce a Statewide Water Quality Initiative (WQI) Program starting
May 5th for cost share funds for nutrient reduction practices as a part of a statewide effort to support the
Nutrient Reduction Strategy. The eligible priority practices are Cover Crops ($25/ac) , Nitrification Inhibitor (fall applied anhydrous only) ($3/ac),
No-Till, and Strip-Till ($10/ac) . The tillage practices will be for 2016 crop year.
Producers that have never used this practice before can apply for up to 160 acres.

New this year will be an expanded offering of cost share assistance for cover crops to past WQI
participants as well as other non-1st time users. Priority will still remain for funding 1st time users, with
past users getting 2nd priority and others 3rd priority. Applications will be taken at the Henry
County Soil & Water Conservation District, 709 S. Henry, Mt. Pleasant through July 1st.
