Erma Lucille Hoefer, 95, of rural Brighton died Sunday afternoon, September 25, 2016, at Parkview Home in Wayland. She was born August 5, 1921, in rural Jefferson County near Lockridge to Ross and Jessie Schadt Shuppy. Erma graduated from Fairfield High School in 1937 and married Carl Hoefer in Kahoka, MO on October 8, 1948. He died September 16, 2013. Erma was a rural grade school teacher for 6 years and later worked for McCleery Cummings Company in Washington for 13 seasons. She and Carl lived their lives on the Hoefer Heritage Farm near Germanville where she enjoyed gardening, sewing, her flowers, feeding the birds and caring for her pets.
Erma is survived by four nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a younger sister.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday September 29, 2016, at Union Free Cemetery near her home with Pastor Ryan Dexter officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials for the Brighton Volunteer First Responders may be left at the cemetery or mailed to Dennis Hoefer at 2598 Chimney Springs Drive, Marietta, GA-30062. Gould Funeral Home in Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
