Emma Mae Stecker, 87, of Bonaparte, died at 1:17 a.m., Friday, June 17 at the Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua.
Born, May 23, 1929, in Bonaparte, she was the daughter of Bennie and Mabel Brown Muntz. On May 23, 1947 she married John Walter Shriver at the First Baptist Church in Farmington. He died August 8, 1955. On January 6, 1967 she married Dean Hirschler at Stockport. He died March 28, 1970. On August 12, 1972 she married Lester Stecker at Kahoka, Mo. He died December 5, 1995.
Emma was a graduate of Bonaparte High School. She worked as a linotype operator at the Record-Republican newspaper in Bonaparte for many years, as a cook at the Harmony Elementary School in Bonaparte for several years, and later worked as a proofreader and correspondent at the Van Buren County Leader-Record newspaper in Farmington and Bonaparte.
She was a member of the Bonaparte Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling and loved working in her yard and taking care of her many beautiful flowers. She was an excellent cook and especially noted for her homemade pies and deviled eggs.
Survivors include a son Steve (Shirley) Shriver of Bonaparte; a daughter-in-law Tamera Shriver of Bonaparte; six grandchildren JC (Randi) Shriver of Bonaparte, Brock (Allie) Shriver of Garland, Texas, Elliott (Erica) Shriver, Davenport, Paul (Kathy) Shriver, Moberly, Mo., Ryan (Sarah) Shriver, Bonaparte, and Erin (Jeremy) Clubb, Douds; five great-grandchildren; five step-children, Raymond (Norma) Stecker of Prairie City, Dale (Monica) Stecker of Knoxville, Tenn., Connie (David) Westercamp of Keosauqua, Dan (Pat) Stecker of Pleasantville, and Terry (Kathy) Stecker of Chicago, Ill.; step-grandchildren Lindley (Kerry) Stecker of Indianola, Chalyne (Scott) Kephart of Pella, and Kristin (Scott) Enyart of Pella, 14 other step-grandchildren; 24 step-great grandchildren; one brother, Morris Muntz of Warren, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Bernie Muntz, Bonaparte; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a son Michael; two brothers, John Muntz and Bennie (Whitey) Muntz; a daughter-in-law Heidi Shriver; and a great-granddaughter Lindsay.
As per her wishes, her body has been cremated. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bonaparte Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Caston officiating. Visitation will open 3 P.M. Tuesday, June 21 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery. Memorials to the Bonaparte Cemetery may be left at the funeral or church or mailed to the family at 411 Jackson Street, Bonaparte, Iowa 52620.
