A celebration of life for Elsie I. (Reschly) Burkholder, 87, of Washington, will be held Sunday November 8, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bethel Mennonite Church in rural Wayland, with Pastor Curt Kuhns officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery. A time to greet the family will be held in the fellowship hall following the service at the cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Bethel Mennonite Church. Elsie Burkholder died Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
Elsie Irene Reschly was born near Lockridge, IA, to Harry and Fanny (Conrad) Reschly on March 14, 1928. The family later moved close to Olds, IA, where Elsie went to Prospect Country School. Then the family moved again north east of Crawfordsville, IA, when Elsie was 10 years old and in the 4th grade. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1946. On September 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Stanley D. Burkholder in Daytonville, IA. Elsie did housework for a number of people while raising her children. In 1970 she worked at the Crawfordsville Post Office as a clerk. She was later promoted to Postmaster and remained in that position until her retirement at age 62. Elsie will be remembered for all the quilts she made for all of her six children and grandchildren. She also like to work with her flowers and her yard and she especially enjoyed taking care of her family.
Survivors include her husband Stanley of Washington, IA, six children: Dwain (Kathleen) Burkholder of Ocala, FL, Steve Burkholder of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jean (William) Molander of WeekiWachee, FL, Warren Burkholder of Marion, IA, Suzanne (Sam) Smith of Columbus Junction, IA, Marlene (Scott) Carver of Wayland, IA, 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, three brothers: Marion (Opal) Reschly of Crawfordsville, IA, Vernon (Laura) Reschly of Nowata, OK, Raymond (Wava) Reschly of Kalona, IA.
Preceding Elsie in death were her parents, three brothers: Williard, Benjamin and Orlin Reschly and two sisters, Vera Buchanon and Kathryn Lehman.
