On March 15 at approximately 6:04AM, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a wrong way tractor trailer/semi on the eastbound exit ramp of exit 229 near Westwood. A resulting vehicle crash occurred when a vehicle driven by Nicholas Hill of Rome, Iowa was traveling eastbound on exit 229 and collided with the trailer of the semi. Hill was transported to the Henry County Health Center where he was treated for injuries sustained from the crash. The driver of the tractor trailer/semi was Steve Helgen of Fredericksburg, Iowa. Helgen was cited for Violating One-Way Traffic Designation, Unsafe Backing on Highway, and Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device. He was also summoned to court for Driving Under Suspension. Mount Pleasant Fire, Henry County Paramedics, and the Iowa DOT assisted with this incident.
