Earl E. Higdon

Earl E. Higdon, 87, of rural Douds died at 3:55 P.M. Wednesday January 21, 2015 at his home. He was born June 19, 1927 in Burlington to Louis and Rosalee Jenkins Higdon and married Mildred Chadwick on June 20, 1948 in Burlington.

Earl grew up in Burlington and attended Burlington Schools. After school he moved to Bonaparte and later moved back to Burlington to work at Burlington Northern Shops, Montgomery Ward and the Ordinance Plant and later in construction. Mildred and Earl moved to their farm in 1987 and raised hogs, cattle and row crops. He was a member of Open Bible Church in Burlington and had been pastor at the Open Bible Church in Keokuk. He had been a traveling evangelist, building several churches through a work preach program. He enjoyed working and dealing with finances as his hobbies.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred, three sons, Stephen Higdon (Cathy) of Maui, HI, Jeff Higdon (Michelle) of Lockridge and Todd Higdon of Oskaloosa, a daughter, Jeanne Logan of West Burlington, 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five step-brothers, Jim Higdon of Danville, Billy Higdon of Virginia, Stanley Higdon of Wever, Bobby Higdon of New London and Gary Higdon, three step-sisters, Kay Bergthild of Burlington, Betty McGrath of Silvis, IL and Dorothy Mills of Salem. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Junior, Eugene and Glen Higdon, a sister, Janet Gulick, a step-sister, Shirley Elmore and a son-in-law, Henry Logan.

His body has been cremated; a memorial service will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday January 27, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Stephen Higdon officiating. Visitation with family present will be from 1-2 P.M. Tuesday prior to the service. Private burial of cremains will be on the family farm, Green Valley Farm Ltd., rural Douds at a later date.
