Doris Ilene Winsell

Doris Ilene Winsell, 72, of rural Douds died at 9:50 P.M. Saturday October 3, 2015 at Parkview Care Center, Fairfield after complications due to a stroke. She was born May 26, 1943 in rural Selma to Paul and Minnie B. Goehring Winsell.

Doris attended Selma Consolidated school, then Gray Country School and Ellis Elementary School south of Douds near parents’ farm. She graduated from Keosauqua High school in 1962 and Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in 1964 with an RN degree. After graduating nursing school she joined the Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and worked at Wilford Hall Hospital. While there she met and married David Ross Fletcher. They were married July 27, 1967. She resigned her commission in the Air Force after attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Doris and David had a son, David Paul and a daughter, Paula Marie. While married to Dave they were stationed in Germany and after returning to the United Stated they were stationed in Yankton, South Dakota where she attended anesthesia school earning her Certified Nurse Anesthetist Certification. After moving from Yankton they lived in various places finally in Richmond, Texas. Dave and Doris then divorced and later she met and married Patrick Joseph Macha on December 23, 1993. He had two sons, Nicholas Stanton and Tyler Joseph Macha. After they were married they settled in Waterloo with Doris working at Covenant Hospital and later at Allen Hospital where she worked until 2005. In 2002 Doris and Patrick bought a farm in southeast Iowa near the farm her parents owned south of Douds. They moved there in 2008 after selling their home in Waterloo.

In addition to her husband she is survived by son, David Paul Fletcher and wife Dora and their sons, David James and Andrew Paul, a daughter Paula Marie Daneluk and her sons Justin Paul and Jeremy Ross, step-sons, Nicholas Stanton and Tyler Joseph Macha, four sisters, Wilma Davis of Des Moines, Lila Wells (Kenneth) of Douds, Phillis Connelly (John) of Solon and Midge Arnold (Jim) of Oelwein, a brother, William Winsell (Deb) of Ridgeway, two nieces, Robin Gallegos of Des Moines and Becky Connelly of Iowa City, six nephews, Rick Wells and Dan Wells of Douds, Dustin Winsell of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, Rob Arnold of Norway, Iowa, Mike Arnold of Van Horn, Iowa and Elton Davis of Des Moines and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a nephew, Randy Lee Wells, a niece, Megan Ruth Connelly, and ex-husband, David Ross Fletcher.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday October 10, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds with Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Visitation will open at 3 P.M. Friday with family present from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, north of Douds.
