CLASS 1-A REGIONAL PLAY:
Friday Waco hosted Winfield-Mt Union in the first round of girl’s basketball Class 1A regional tournament play. Winfield-Mt Union after losing twice to Waco in the regular season won the tournament meeting 45-35. Winfield-Mt Union advances to the next round Tuesday at Sigourney, the host team had a first round bye. Waco ends their season 7-16. The other Region results saw New London lose to Notre Dame Saturday night at Father Minet Gymnasium by a score of 60-39, Nikes now play Tuesday night at Holy Trinity Catholic. New London ends the year with a 2-17 record. Moravia beat Twin Cedars 40-35, Moravia plays at #1 seeded Montezuma Tuesday. Keota rolled over English Valleys 48-34, Keota hosts Moulton Udell in the next round Tuesday after Moulton won 46-41 over Melcher-Dallas Friday night.

Indianola rolled over the Mt. Pleasant boys basketball team 68-48 Saturday in Panther Gym, Sam Beatty led the M.P. scoring with 23 points.
Mt Pleasant boy’s basketball hosted Washington Friday night. In the varsity game Panthers won 58-57 led by Sam Beatty with 19 points, Tucker Johnson had 15, and Jaxon Hoyle scored 11. In the JV game Mt Pleasant won 56-53, Clayton Lowery led the team with 11 points. In the freshman contest MPHS won 53-47, Sam Jerrell and Dawon Trent both scored 17 points for the Panthers.
Indianola defeated Mt. Pleasant in girl’s varsity basketball 54-44 in Panther gym, this was the final game of the regular season Mt. Pleasant will head into the post season with a record of 6-14.
Mt Pleasant girls’ basketball teams played at Washington Friday night. In the varsity game the Panthers won a 45-43 game. Maddie Williamson led Mount Pleasant with 11 points and three assists, Elli Liechty finished with nine points and seven rebounds. The JV team ended their season with a 49-43 loss, Kenna Lamm had 17 points. In the freshman game Mt Pleasant lost 35-33.
The Iowa Wesleyan women’s basketball team played a strong first half against the league leading Panthers of Greenville University, but the Tigers struggled against the pressure from the Panthers to start the third period and ended up suffering a 99-59 loss. Iowa Wesleyan was led in scoring by Allie Massner (JR/Mediapolis, IA), who recorded a team high 17 points and nine rebounds. Darby Massner (SR/Mediapolis, IA) added 16 points and was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. It will be senior night for Iowa Wesleyan when they host Fontbonne University at 5:30pm. IW is now 5-16 overall and 3-11 in conference play.
Jarryd Fernandes (SO/Sydney, Australia) and the Iowa Wesleyan Tiger men’s basketball team nearly knocked off the Greenville Panthers in Saturday’s St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. Fernandes broke the IW men’s single game record for field goals made and tied the record for points scored in a single game after scoring 51 points on 21 field goals. Despite his career night, the Panthers hung on to win 128-125. Iowa Wesleyan will play their final home game on Wednesday, February 13th when they host Fontbonne University at 7:30pm. IW is now 6-17 overall and 4-12 in conference play.
Keokuk High School swept the Southeast Conference boys and girls bowling championships at Arrowhead Bowl in Keokuk Friday. The Chiefs’ boys won the team title with 2,923 pins and was followed by Fairfield (2,799) and Mount Pleasant (2,081). The Keokuk girls coasted to the team title with 2,585 pins. Mount Pleasant took second at 1,983. Mount Pleasant’s Alexis Wohlleber won the girls individual championship, she had games of 167 and 194 for a 361 series. Levi Mills led the Panther boys team with games of 163 and 180 for a 343 series.
TCU DEFEATED THE IOWA STATE CYCLONE MEN 92-83 IN BIG 12 BASKETBALL
