The Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility reports the assault of a correctional officer by an offender.
Monday at approximately 5:00 pm staff activated an emergency alarm due to a disturbance in Living Unit 1A.
The assault by offender Randolph Ross included several punches to the face causing bruising and swelling. The staff member was treated by on site medical personal and transported Henry County Health Center where the officer received stitches for lacerations from the assault. The Department considers this incident a very serious assault.
Randolph Ross is a 45 year old male offender from Waterloo, Iowa and is serving a 25 year sentence for Robbery 1st degree. He has been in the department of corrections since 2001.
Following investigation by the DOC, this incident will be referred to the Henry County Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Due to the pending investigation, the officer’s name or additional information is not available for public release at this time.
