Catherine L. Millmier

Catherine L. Millmier, 93, of Donnellson, Iowa passed away at 2:15 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson, Iowa.

She was born Feb. 27, 1922 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Peter P. Kottenstette and Wilhelmina F. (Able) Kottenstette. On Feb. 12, 1945 she married Archiebald R. Millmier at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison where she had been baptized and confirmed. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 1, 1997.

She attended school at Sacred Heart Elementary and was a 1940 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Fort Madison. She was a long time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington, IA where she taught Sunday school, served as past president and treasure of the Altar and Rosary Society. Early in her married life she belonged to the Donnellson Child Study Club, was a member of the Donnellson Garden Club and the Quilt Club in Farmington. Catherine was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 474 since 1981. She served as Poppy chairperson for many years. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, especially making quilts for family members and coverlets for the Veterans at the VA Hospital. For 21 years she volunteered in the 2nd grade classrooms at Central Lee School.

She is survived by 2 sons Richard P. Millmier (Patricia) and Donald J. Millmier (Karen). One daughter Barbara A. McVeigh (Gregory). Four grandsons James G. McVeigh (Robin), Kevin L. McVeigh (Julie), Shawn R. Millmier (Melissa) and Cory J. Millmier. Four granddaughters Talli A Denney (Steve), Amy M. Schmidt (Ty), Lisa R Roberts (Mark), Shelly L. Lewis (Nathan). Sixteen great grand children Hanna and DylanMcVeigh, Kaylee and Jenna McVeigh, Alexis and Jace Roberts, Ethan, Devan, Peyton and Paxton Millmier, Elise and Megan Denney, James and Charlee Schmidt and Elliott and Allison Lewis. One sister Gertrude Helling and Numerious nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Mary Scholl (John), John Kottenstette (Francella), William Kottenstette (Patricia) and one brother-in-law William Helling (Gertrude).

Memorials may be made to St Boniface Church or Auxiliary Veterans Treasury.

Friends may call after 12:00 noon Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Schmitz Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home that afternoon with a rosary being recited at 3:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington, Iowa with Father Dennis Hoffman as celebrant.

Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fort Madison, Iowa.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
