Carl L. Carr, 73, of Douds died at 5:21 P.M. Tuesday May 19, 2015 at University Hospital, Iowa City. He was born April 6, 1942 in rural Douds to Stephen P. and Melva Pearson Carr and married Carol Ann Williams November 20, 1966 in Ottumwa. She died November 27, 2008.
Carl graduated from Douds High School and served as a artillery instructor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He farmed the family farm south of Douds, worked at the Libertyville School and retired from Barker Ltd. He was a long-time member, past Commander and current Financial Officer of John Hyson Reneker Post 494, American Legion, Douds, a founding member and Past President of Southeastern Iowa Sportsman’s Society, a 30-year Hunter Education Instructor for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and served on the Leando Cemetery Board and Douds Fire Department.
Surviving are a daughter, Kristina Quinn (Steven) of Washington, a son, Robert Carr (Tara) of Des Moines, three grandchildren, Ashley Crable (Michael) of Colfax and Carl Dean and, Kaitlynn Nichole Carr both of Des Moines, six great-grandchildren, Austin, Malechi, Nile, Serenity, Etta and Urijah Crable and two sisters, Linda Rozendaal (Clarence) of Oskaloosa and Phyllis Hendricks (George) of Bonaparte.
He is also survived by his special friend, Shaaron Golden and her children, Robert Golden (Lynn) and Sue Cunningham all of Douds, grandchildren, Abby and Tyler Golden, Cassie Goedkin (Tim), Shelbee Richards (Trevor), Clint Cunningham (Jessica) and four great-grandchildren
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lawrence Carr and a grandson Jordan Smith
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday May 23, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds with Rev. Mark Young officiating. Visitation will open at 3 P.M. Friday at the funeral home with family present from 5-7 P.M. Burial with military honors by John Hyson Reneker Post will be in Leando Cemetery. A honor guard of the Iowa Patriot Riders will lead the funeral procession to the cemetery. Memorials to Leando Cemetery, John Hyson Reneker Post 494 or Southeastern Iowa Sportsman’s Society may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 2475 219th Blvd., Washington, IA .
