The Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis Club will be at the Greater Iowa Swap Meet today under the Wright Family Pavillion from 6 to 10:15 am. They will be serving unlimited pancakes and coffee, two sausages, eggs, milk, and juice. Adults are $6 and kids 5-12 are $2!
The Winfield Mt. Union Lunch Ladies are holding a garage sale fundraiser from 8 am to 1 pm in the machine shed at 2636 Hwy 78 Mt. Union. Lots of name brand clothes all sizes, household goods, books and misc. All for a free will donation. The funds raised will be used for scholarships for WMU students.
Due to the wet weather, the large flags will not be put out in the Winfield Scott Cemetery today.
The Mount Pleasant City compost site is open today from 8 am to 5 pm. The site is located southwest of Saunders Park and the end of Yocum Lane and Hoaglin Drive.
Cycling action continues in downtown Burlington at the 37th annual Snake Alley Criterium today. The Criterium races begin at 8:30 as hundreds of athletes compete for thousands of dollars in prizes. The popular kids' races and Cobble Climb take place at noon, and the final category, 1/2/Pro race begins at 3:40 pm. The Bonaparte Spring Festival Sales take place from 9 am to 5 pm today and tomorrow. All the shops will be open, and there will be a large selection of vendors and citywide garage sales.
Mt. Pleasant Christian School graduation ceremony will be held at 10 am at the school on East Washington Street.
The Bentonsport Flea Market and Craft Show takes place in Riverside Park from 10 am to 5 pm today and tomorrow. There will be a variety of vendors, music, food, and blacksmithing and other demonstrations all weekend.
Kick Start Combat Veterans Chapter 39-5 Rally at the Van Buren County Fairgrounds in Keosauqua. The public is invited to enjoy a hog roast, live music, biker games, auction, benefit ride and more. You don't have to be a vet or a biker to come out and support veterans helping veterans. Event continues on Saturday.
The Henry County Heritage Center is open every Saturday from 1 to 4 pm, and other hours by appointment. The Van Allen House is open by appointment only. Admission is free; donations are appreciated. To make an appointment, call 319-385-4983.
The Dover Museum in New London is open every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 pm between now and the end of October. There's no charge but donations are welcome.
The Winfield Museum 20th Anniversary open house will be held from 2 to 4 pm. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited to come in and see their new displays and have a piece of cake. The first 20 guests will receive a small gift.
The Greater Iowa Swap Meet and Flea Market is open all day today in McMillan Park. This event is free admission and parking.
New London VFW is having their last catfish and chicken dinner until fall from 5 to 7:30 pm. Karaoke will immediately follow the dinner. Carry-outs are welcome by calling 367-5009.
The Cornerstone Community Well in Fairfield is hosting their annual Share in a Piece of the Pie today from 9 am to 2 pm. You're invited to select a delicious homebaked pie to share with your loved ones for a free will donation. Proceeds help financially struggling families in Jefferson County. Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to area veterans. After you select your pie, take a tour of CCW to view their office, life skills work shops, and learn how you can assist these families as a volunteer!
