The Van Buren Community Players will be performing "Catch Me If You Can", a play based on the hit film and the incredible true story about Frank Abagnale Jr., today and tomorrow. The play will be held at the Roberts Memorial Building, 20497 Hwy. 1 N., Keosauqua. Ticket pricing is as follows: Adults: $10, Children under 18: $6, Seniors on Sunday: $8. Tickets are available beginning February 1st at First Iowa State Bank, 714 1st St. Keosauqua.
The Mt. Pleasant Christian School will be holding their auction today starting at 9 am. There will be 15 opportunities to win a family vacation to Lake Okoboji, over 100 gift certificates from area businesses, speciality baked goods and frozen entrees, 4 iowa state fair and king and country tickets, tae kwon do classes, a ukulele with case, and much more. The proceeds from this auction help keep the tuition as low as possible and contribute to the operating expenses of the Mt. Pleasant Christian School.
There will be a maple syrup program today from 9 am to noon at the Top of the Hill area in the Dorothy Family Maple Syrup camp at Oakland Mills County Park. Demonstrations on tapping trees, how an evaporator works, and syrup tasting are part of the activities. This event is free and open to all ages. groups are welcome. Also, the Friends of Conservation will be making pancakes in the Oakland Mills Nature Center during the maple syrup program. It will be a free will donation with all proceeds going towards the conservation department's resident raptors.
The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center is again the site of the Southeast Iowa Farm Show. From 9 am to 3 pm enjoy seeing the latest in machinery, seed technology, grain handling and agriculture services. There will be over 40 vendors, face painting, a caricature artist and lunch by the Jefferson County Cattlemen. Admission is free. Following the Southeast Iowa Farm Show enjoy performances by Shenandoah and The Boys on the Sondheim stage.
The Mt. Pleasant Middle School and High School Jazz bands are in Iowa City this morning for the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association contest. This afternoon the Middle School show choir will compete at the Ft. Madison High School at 2:45 pm and the High School show choir will compete at Ft. Madison Highschool at 4:35 pm.
Oakville United Methodist's 29th annual Taco Supper is from 5 to 7:30 pm in the Oakville Community Building. They will be serving homemade tacos, taco baskets, hamburgers, desserts and drinks by freewill donation to benefit Oakville Fire and Rescue and Oakville UMW
Three veteran Players Workshop actors will take to the stage to portray three retired World War I veterans in a French military hospital in Players Workshop of Burlington’s upcoming performance of the dramedy Heroes, on Feb. 28-Mar. 3, at the Workshop at 1431 Grove St. Performances are at 7:30 p.m., except for the 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinee. The play is presented with special permission of Samuel French.
