At 3:25 PM Sunday October 11, 2015, the Burlington Fire Department was called to 11901 107th Street in Flint River Township, on a report of a wood and trash fire. Firefighters arrived and found a large area of stacked wood pallets on fire and the fire was spreading rapidly. Defensive fire ground operations were established and mutual aid departments were called for assistance.
The property is owned by Odessa Wood Products of Wapello Iowa. At least one pole building and one semi-trailer became involved and are considered a total loss. Stacked wood pallets covering nearly 1 ½ acres of ground were involved and are also considered a total loss. The property is insured. The business was closed at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department and Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office. Damage and estimates are still being assessed.
The Burlington Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from the West Burlington, Danville, Mediapolis, and Gladstone Fire Departments for equipment and manpower. Firefighters from the New London Fire Department were also called to stand by at the West Burlington station. There were no injuries and firefighters are expected to remain on scene throughout the night.
