Written by Theresa Rose on September 15, 2015

The Iowa 1 bridge over the Skunk River near Brighton in Washington County will be closed and new bridge construction work will begin Monday, Jan. 26, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mount Pleasant construction office.

Traffic impact

Traffic will be detoured east on Iowa 92 at the intersection of Iowa 1 and Iowa 92 in Washington, then south on South Iowa Avenue/Washington County Road W-55, then southwest on Washington County Road W-47 to Iowa 78, and then west on Iowa 78 to Iowa 1 in Brighton.
The Brighton boat access will remain open during construction.
The existing bridge will be replaced with a 44-foot wide bridge with two 12-foot lanes and 10-foot paved shoulders on both sides.
The bridge and road is anticipated to reopen to traffic by mid-October 2015.

Iowa Bridge & Culvert LC is the contractor for this $5.1 million dollar project.
