On 8/7/16 at around 12:00pm Des Moines County deputies were informed of the discovery of a deceased body found in the main channel of the Mississippi River, approximately 1.5 miles northeast of Hawkeye Dolbee in rural Des Moines County.  Deputies assisted Wapello Fire and Rescue crews and officers from the Louisa County Department of Natural Resources in recovering the body from the river.

The name and age of the victim are being withheld at this time pending notification of the next of kin.  The victim is believed to have been the same subject who went missing while swimming in the Mississippi River on Friday, August 5th in rural Louisa County.  The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office and Wapello Fire and Rescue are currently investigating the incident although foul play is not suspected.  The Des Moines County Medical Examiner’s Office also assisted in the recovery effort.
