Bob Dettman

Robert L. “Bob” Dettman, 58, of Donnellson, Iowa passed away at 9:15 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

 

Born August 24, 1957 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Louis Earl “Louie” and Ethel Jane (Land) Dettman. Bob lived in Iowa for forty three years and Hannibal, Missouri for sixteen years.

 

Survivors include his special friend of forty one years; Susan Meinhardt of Donnellson, two sisters; Cindy (Rod) White of Burlington and LouAnn Dettman of Yachats, Oregon (previously of Donnellson), niece Mandy (Jeff) Chase of Danville, nephew; Nick (Maggie) Kirchner of Donnellson and nine nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Alan Dale and Michael Earl.

 

Bob was a graduate of Central Lee High School. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for ten years, an Eagle Scout Explorer and a member of the Order of the Arrows. Bob worked for Crandon Paper Mill in Fort Madison, Iowa, the Santa Fe Railroad as a trackman, he was a Parks and Recreation worker, he was a self employed carpenter, roofer and painter in West Point, Iowa and Hannibal, Missouri, he worked for Moeller Construction in Franklin, Iowa, Hulsebus Grain and Bins in Donnellson, Iowa and at the Franklin Tap in Franklin, Iowa.  Bob loved hunting, fishing, camping, many different outdoor adventures, riding Harleys, going to auctions and yard sales. He enjoyed being around new and old friends and his family. Bob loved telling old stories about his life and adventures.

 

According to his wishes, his body has been entrusted to the Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
