Betty Lee Underwood, age 87 of Winfield, died Thursday November 5, 2015 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield. The daughter of E. Raymond and Edna (Lee) Cummings, she was born June 30, 1928 at Winfield. On June 30, 1947 she married Roland O. Underwood in Winfield; he died October 30, 2008. She was a graduate of Winfield High School and the IWC Business College. She worked at W.A. Sheaffer Pen in Mt. Pleasant for two years and helped on the family farm. She was a member of the Winfield United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, American Legion and V.F.W. Auxilliaries being past president of all. She was also a member of the O.E.S. and past matron. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, family, antiques and in earlier years square dancing.
Survivors include: two daughters, Pamela and Steve Ziegenhorn of Muscatine; Carol and Rob Bowers of Ames; three sons, Mark and Susan Underwood of Wildwood, Mo.; Jim and Barbara Underwood of Winfield; Lee and Diane Underwood of Las Vegas, Nevada; 10 grandchildren, Luke, John, Riley, Nicholas and Alexander Underwood; Jennifer and Kaitlyn Ziegenhorn; Abby Montgomery, Allison and Chelsea Bowers; two great grandchildren, Cecelia Bonilla and Elliot Montgomery;
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother Raymond Keith Cummings.
The funeral service will be Monday November 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Winfield United Methodist church with Rev. Randy Moser officiating. Interment will follow at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9-10:30 prior to the service at the Winfield United Methodist Church. Memorials have been established for the Winfield United Methodist church and Lupas Foundation.
