Betty Henrietta Larson

Betty Henrietta Larson, age 103, of Swedesburg, Iowa, passed away on March 9, 2014 at the New London Care Center in New London, Iowa.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12 from 5 to 7 p.m at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, Iowa. Her celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m on Friday, March 13 at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swedesburg; interment will follow at the church cemetery..

Betty, the daughter of Alexander and Minnie (Adler) Boesrup was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on November 24, 1911.

On July 26, 1942 she married Ferdinand (Ferdie) H. Larson in Des Moines at Central Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death June 3, 1992.

She graduated early from Roosevelt High School in 1929 and attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, also graduating in 1929. She had been employed at Iowa-Des Moines National Bank and Insurance Company of North America, Des Moines and at C. B. De Mille Insurance Agency in Seattle, Washington.

She was a member of Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, Swedesburg, and was active in many of the organizations. She served several years on the State Board of CROP/Church World Service. She was a member and past secretary of the Swedish Heritage Society. She volunteered with Hope Haven, helping with swimming recreation. She also taught English as a Second Language to Vietnamese immigrants.

She and Ferdie visited nursing homes and the Henry County Home frequently, providing music on the harmonica, accordion and piano.

Her interests were family, church, reading, swimming, sewing, music, traveling and photography.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Alvin Boesrup, a sister Ruth Boesrup in infancy, son-in-law Phil Firch and son-in-law Lanny J. Crawford. She is survived by three daughters, Johanna Ruth Crawford of Mount Pleasant, Christine Reynolds (Gary) of Frytown and Nona Firch of Bridewater. Her five grandchildren include Karla Crawford Kerr of Mount Pleasant, Katherine Crawford of Woodridge, Illinois, Matthew Reynolds of Cedar Rapids, Amanda Reynolds of Schaumburg, Illinois and Tracy Miller of Bridgewater. Her seven grandchildren include Maverick and Annika Kerr of Mount Pleasant, Kyra and Jacob Reynolds of Cedar Rapids, Brennan, Marissa and Max of Bridgewater and Mason Meglio of Schaumburg.
