Villages of Van Buren County, Iowa will host the countywide Scenic Drive Festival which is always held the second full weekend in October. Visitors are encouraged to follow the marked “Scenic Drive” signs through Van Buren County in Southeast Iowa and along the Historic Hills Scenic Byway to experience each of the historic Villages. There will be fine arts, crafts, flea markets, antiques, car show, parade, live music and so much more! While in the area be sure to visit historic sites like Pearson House Museum Complex, part of the Underground Railroad located in Keosauqua, the Pioneer Historical Museum in Farmington to learn more about the Honey War, Richardson’s Point, an 1846 Mormon Encampment site near Milton and see the Van Buren County Courthouse, Iowa’s oldest in continuous use. The extremely popular home-cooked meals include a buffet held Friday and Saturday nights at the Sunrise Bakery, North of Bonaparte, Grandma’s Noodle Dinner for Saturday lunch in Milton, and breakfast Saturday morning at the Amish School in Lebanon.  Each Village has so many options you definitely won’t go hungry! Also at the complex, is a one-room Schoolhouse and authentic Log Cabin that will be open for tours with guides in period dress depicting the pioneer lifestyle. Kids activities. Mount Pleasant [September 29, 2021] – The Henry County Health Center Diabetes Education Center’s monthly Continuous Glucose Meter (CGM) Support Group will meet Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 2-3 p.m. in Suite 25 in the Diabetes Education Center.

This group is designed for anyone who currently wears a CGM or is interested in getting one. All of the group currently are Dexcom users, but individuals with other brands are welcome to attend!

The group meets to support, educate, troubleshoot, and discuss the latest news regarding CGMs. Many times this leads into other topics specific to having Type 1 diabetes or being insulin dependent.

What once was a unique device is becoming more common for insulin dependent patients. The group not only supports and informs each other with CGM use, but is also a way for people to see that others with diabetes have the same day to day issues living with diabetes.

Mount Pleasant, Iowa, September 30, 2021 – Early detection is the best protection against breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Henry County Health Center will offer screening mammograms with no appointment necessary on Friday, October 15.

On October 15, anyone over the age of 40 is invited to get a routine screening mammogram between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. at HCHC with the following guidelines:

• Must be over the age of 40;
• Routine screening mammograms only;
• Must be at least one year since your last mammogram for insurance purposes;
• No appointment necessary, but need to register at the health center lobby main entrance;
• Patients must designate a physician or advanced practice provider to receive the report.

HCHC patients receive advanced breast imaging with HCHC’s Hologic Selenia Dimensions 3-D mammography. Breast tomosynthesis, often referred to as 3-D mammography, allows doctors to see masses and distortions associated with cancers and precancerous cells significantly more clearly than conventional 2-D mammography. Fine details are more visible with 3-D imaging and no longer hidden by the surrounding tissue. The difference between 2-D and 3-D mammography is that 3-D acquires more images per exposure giving the radiologist more information and the ability to see finer details.

Studies have shown that 3-D mammograms result in the following benefits for patients: 30-35 percent increase in cancer detection; 11 percent decrease in biopsy rate; an approximate 40 percent reduction in recall rates; 40-50 percent increase in invasive cancer detection. In addition, 3-D mammography has superior diagnostic accuracy for all breast types. Very low x-ray energy is used during the exam, with the total patient dose being well within the FDA safety standards for mammography.

HCHC’s mammography technologists are specifically trained in this imaging. In addition to offering cutting-edge 3-D mammography, HCHC’s Women’s Center provides a private and comfortable waiting area with direct entry to mammography, bone density and ultrasound testing. On October 15, no appointment is required for a routine screening mammogram; just register in the front lobby. However, for patients wanting to schedule a mammogram, call 319-385-6540.

Please remember that due to COVID-19 precautions, everyone who enters the health center is required to wear a facemask and is asked screening questions. Only one visitor per patient is allowed for outpatient services. Also, no children under the age of 18 are allowed in the health center unless they are the patient and have an appointment.

The Open Forum portion of the New London City Council meeting is a time where the public is allowed to speak.
This is a courtesy that is extended to you. During this portion of the meeting the following guideline will be in

DAVENPORT, Iowa – A Burlington man, Valentino Giovanni McCampbell, was
sentenced on Monday, October 4, 2021 by United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose
to 64 months in prison for Drug User in Possession of Firearms and Ammunition. McCampbell
was ordered to serve three years of supervised release to follow his prison term and pay $100 to
the Crime Victims’ Fund.
Law enforcement began investigating McCampbell, age 22, after he was observed at a
shooting range in Des Moines County while on state probation for firearms offenses. Following
one of McCampbell’s visits to the range in May 2020, law enforcement seized two firearms from
him and continued their investigation. In July 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant
at McCampbell’s residence, where they seized a loaded .45 caliber Glock 30 handgun; a stolen,
loaded, Anderson Arms AR-15 rifle; numerous rounds of ammunition; marijuana; and drug
paraphernalia. McCampbell provided a urine sample, which was positive for THC. McCampbell
admitted being a daily user of marijuana, as well as selling marijuana to friends. On May 24,
2021, McCampbell pleaded guilty to this offense.
Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made
the announcement. The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case
