Active Shooter Drill at Mt. Pleasant Middle School

Written by Theresa Rose on April 28, 2015

On Friday May 1, 2015, The Mt Pleasant Police will be conducting an Active Shooter Mock Drill Scenario at the Mt Pleasant Middle School. The Mt Pleasant School District has received A.L.I.C.E training (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate ) from local law enforcement. The Middle School has had several trainings this year with both staff and students including a table top exercise a few months ago.

There will be several agencies participating in the exercise. There will NOT be any live weapons allowed in the school during the drill. It will be realistic however and students/staff will have to react to the perceived threat. There will be simulated weapons used by law enforcement and realistic sounding devices. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office will be dispatching as if it was really happening.

There will not be any drills while the fifth grade classes are visiting so it will only be for the current middle school students.

This is a training for both law enforcement and students to simulate an active shooter. Schools have several fire alarm drills throughout the year, yet it has been many years since an actual fire broke out in a school anywhere in the United States. Unfortunately there are school shootings that happen several times a year.

Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact the school or the Mt Pleasant Police Department at 385-1450.
