Legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra swings into the Sondheim Center, Sat. Oct. 17Written by Theresa Rose on October 12, 2015
The legendary GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA brings its unique swingin’ jazz sound to the Sondheim Center, Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m.
The legend lives on; the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since. Just as it was in Glenn’s day, the Glenn Miller Orchestra today is still the most sought after big band in the world.
In a show the whole family can enjoy, you will experience the excitement of the sound of this incredible orchestra and marvel at the pure energy of the band, dancers and singers. The show features the fabulous harmonies of The Moonlight Serenaders, along with the vocals of music director Nick Hilscher and Natalie Angst.
You’ll hear the original arrangements of classic wartime chart toppers including “Moonlight Serenade”, “American Patrol”, “Little Brown Jug”, “Tuxedo Junction” and the iconic “In the Mood”.
Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all dance bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930s and 40s. A matchless string of hit records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts and the drawing power, built and sustained the momentum of popularity. Glenn Miller and his orchestra made a big impact right before and during the war. The group had more hit records in one year than anybody in the history of the recording industry.
What makes the Glenn Miller Orchestra so recognizable? The sound is created by the clarinet holding the melodic line, doubled or coupled with the tenor sax playing the same notes; and the harmonies produced by three other saxophones, while growling trombones and wailing trumpets add their oo-aas.
Tickets for Glenn Miller Orchestra are $33 for Zone 1, $27 for Zone 2, $22 for Zone 3 and $15 for Zone 4 and youth/students. Tickets are available at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center Ticket Office, 641-472-2787 and www.FairfieldACC.com.
