Terry Paul Huston, age 79 of Winfield, Iowa passed away peacefully at Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehab Center in Winfield, Wednesday, January 7, surrounded by his family, ending his 8 year battle with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s. He is no longer a prisoner within his own body.
Terry Paul Huston was born March 19, 1935 at Burlington, the son of Paul Gordon and Lucile (Wycoff) Huston. He graduated from Wyman High School with the class of 1952. Terry was united in marriage to Betty Jean Lee on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1955 at the Winfield United Methodist Church. Both were lifelong members of this church. They lived their entire lives in the Wyman and Winfield area. They were blessed with 4 sons, Mark Eugene, Todd Eric, Scott Edward and Lynn Edgar.
Terry was a true farmer at heart and worked very hard. He worked for his Dad on the family farm until back surgery forced him to quit. He then worked at the local Winfield Elevator in the agronomy department and plant maintenance manager for 34 years. Terry was a perfect example of the old saying, “You can to take the boy out of the farm, but you can’t take the farmer out of the boy.” He could fix anything or invent his own method of making things work. He was also electrically inclined and completely wired 2 homes to code.
Camping, fishing and traveling were his favorite past-times. Terry and Betty were able to visit all states, including Hawaii, with the exception of Alaska. They also took a farm tour to Europe and visited Mexico, Canada, Nova Scotia, England and Scotland. Camping and volunteering at Old Threshers on the groundtrain was a highlight. They were fortunate to be Winter Texans for 1 or 2 months per year for 7 years, where they made many good memories and friendships that still exist today.
Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and only sibling, Gordon W. Huston.
Survivors include his wife Betty, who was his faithful caregiver the past 8 years; 4 sons, Mark of Cedar Rapids, Todd (Kelly) of Tipton, Scott (Mary) of Indianola and Lynn of Winfield; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Abbe, Brock, Blake, Grant, Clint, and Geoffrey; and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 2-4 P.M. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield where the family will receive friends at this time. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 12, 2015 at 2 P.M. at the Winfield United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Moser officiating. Burial will follow at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.
A general memorial has been established in his name.
